I'm listening.
Running for DeWitt Town Supervisor. Running for you.

Meet Rick

Born and raised in Cicero, Rick Kunz has lived in the Town of DeWitt, on the border of the Village of East Syracuse, with his wife Terri for the past 20 years. He is currently retired from a 45-year career in the auto industry, with the last 30 years spent in municipal and large fleet sales and finance. Throughout his career, both in commercial and municipal sectors, Rick has demonstrated over 55 years of leadership experience, which he has used to support a wide range of organizations.
After completing high school, Rick joined the United States Coast Guard, serving with distinction. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Central New York, where he followed a family tradition by joining the South Bay Volunteer Fire Department.
Several years later, Rick relocated to Northern California, where he began refining his skills by working with individuals, companies, and municipalities. There, he gained hands-on experience with municipal contracts and financing, procurement laws, and, most importantly, developed a deep understanding of negotiation and communication across the public and private sectors.

After 9/11, Rick joined the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to once again serve his country. He went on to work with the active-duty Coast Guard in support of the Sea Marshal Service at the 11th Northern Coast Guard District Headquarters in Alameda, California, where he remains active to this day. After returning to Central New York in 2003, he continued his service with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, eventually rising to the positions of Flotilla Commander and Division Commander. Over the years, Rick has earned several commendations, including the Award of Operational Merit from the United States Coast Guard. He remains deeply involved in the Coast Guard, the Auxiliary, and in promoting Recreational Boating Safety.

Rick understands that local politics are uniquely different. The job of Town Supervisor is both simple and challenging. It’s simple in that the goals are clear: keep the streets plowed in winter and repaired in summer, maintain clean and accessible parks, and ensure neighborhoods are safe through strong police, fire, and EMS services. But it’s challenging because true leadership requires transparency, communication, and collaboration—not just with residents, but also with nearby municipalities like the Village of East Syracuse, neighboring towns, and the county. Rick believes in working together for services that are seamless, efficient, and cost-effective.
The Plan

No arrogance. No agenda. Just a plan.
A simple plan for the taxpayers. With a focus on listening to the needs and suggestions of residents, business owners, and community members, I'm running to bring a fresh, open-minded, and diverse voice to the Town of DeWitt and the Village of East Syracuse.

Cooperation, not consolidation, is the key to long-term success and prosperity.
Just like you, I’m a tax-paying resident of the Town of DeWitt. I have the same questions and concerns as every other resident. My experience didn’t come from being a stay-at-home dad. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, I’ve simply followed a different path. I have a hands-on, real-world background. I never let school interfere with my education. I learned by doing.
My views aren't tied to any single agenda. I'm open to all solid ideas that can help move the Town of DeWitt forward through these challenging times. I believe in transparency, with clear plans accessible to every resident. I’m here to listen—to your questions, your concerns—and to have real conversations about the local issues that impact our daily lives.
